MicroPanc

Investigating the Role of Microbiome in Pancreatic Cancer

In addition to the body's own immune system, several microbes have been shown to play a key role in the development and progression of cancers, with the most common example being Helicobacter's link to stomach cancer. With the development of genomic sequencing techniques, the broader study of microbiota and their genes at the individual level has become possible. This ecosystem is called the microbiome.

In our research, CT-scan material from the Finnish Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Cancers Cohort (FinHPB) is used to develop AI algorithms for the early detection and risk classification of pancreatic tumors. The FinHPB cohort includes all patients with liver, pancreatic, and biliary tract cancers who underwent surgery in Finland between 2000 and 2019, totaling 6,930 patients.

Join us in our mission to advance the understanding and treatment of pancreatic cancer through cutting-edge research on the microbiome and other innovative approaches. With your support, we can continue to make strides in improving patient outcomes and ultimately finding a cure for this devastating disease.
